There are several methods of birth control. Most common practice among couples is the use of contraceptives like condoms, pills, iud and the natural family planning method which is rhythm method. Of the four mentioned birth control method, the rhythm method is the most economical since you do not have to purchase it on local drugstores. It is being used only with the guide of a calendar. It is here where the woman marks the first day of his menstruation and monitors daily the number of days from the first day to check if she is on her safe day or fertile period.
However, there are some couples who are at a loss sometimes when using this method because they are not very much knowledgeable when is the right time to have intercourse without fear of getting pregnant. Or when is the fertile period of a woman to observe abstinence or to use other form of contraceptive like condom to avoid the prospect of the woman getting pregnant. Using the rhythm method is sometimes associated with using other form of contraceptives like condom or observing abstinence during the fertile days of the woman. Other couples on the other hand are sometimes confused on when to start the counting of days and whether it is before or after the first menstrual day that the woman is on her safe period.
There was a product developed years ago to help couples observing family planning using this rhythm method which is called the Cycle Beads and was introduced by the Institute of Reproductive Health. Cycle Beads is in the form of an oversized necklace or a rosary. It has a string of 32 colored beads each one representing one day of a woman's menstrual cycle. The string of beads has a small black rubber ring that is moved from bead to bead each day. The color of the beads indicates the likelihood of pregnancy.
However, using this Cycle Beads at times when both couples are pre-occupied with their respective jobs may tend either partner to forget moving the rubber ring on a certain day and if that happens, the moving sequence might be lost altogether.
With the same theory as Cycle Beads minus the process of moving a rubber ring each day, a new concept on birth control was developed to guide couples on their family planning activity, the DontGetPreggy Guide. With the help of this, the couple has to remember only the first day of the menstrual period of the woman. By opening the Guide and by counting the number of days from the first day of her menstruation she will know if it is her safe period or fertile period.
